We gather the first of Cartmel's new Food Markets happened back in September. This is an example of a village with a strong identity and passionate food producers who have taken it upon themselves to make a great monthly food market happen – these are often the best markets. We're excited to go along to the first one this year, on Friday March 18, 10-4pm; save the date!

One of the organisers is Martin Gott, who makes the beautiful ewe's milk cheese at Holker Farm Dairy, and who opened a fantastic cheese shop at the new Unsworth Yard in Cartmel in June last year. When you go to the market, don't miss a visit to Cartmel Cheeses, the baker and the wine merchant in the Yard, perhaps a spot of lunch at Rogan & Company. And don't forget to stock up on Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding at the Cartmel Village Shop.

Producers selling their food at the Food Market include Sillfield Farm, Furness Fish and Game, Kitridding farm Shop, David Knipe, Cartmel Cheeses and The Pudding Room.
